The Weston Squash and Racketball Club Racketball Championships were held recently and attracted some players of very high calibre.

Tom Lane the defending champion was the top seed but fell in a marathon five game epic semi final against James Hazzard which lasted for nearly two hours with both players near to collapse. This set up a final with Rob Watkins who had defeated Jerry Lane in his semi final. Both finalists are better known for their squash achievements but adopted well to the racketball format which requires a more patient approach with the emphasis on rallying rather than winning shots.

Although Rob won 3-0 ,the final lasted in excess of an hour with each game closely contested. James perhaps still suffering from his long semi final made one or two critical errors as Rob ground him down with a fine length and tight shots.

The doubles final was a family affair with father and daughter Jerry and Emma Lane playing Rob Watkins and Natalie Lawrence. After a slow start the match really got going with some hard hitting rallies. Trailing 2-1 Rob and Natalie battled back to win in the fifth .
